Nobody wants constant criticism, but nobody needs constant praise only -- from ourselves or anybody else.

Sometimes I look at the work of a person who has been doing calligraphy for 20 years and think, "Yes, you've been repeating what you learned in that 6-week introduction to calligraphy." This kind of person is very happy with her work but will never improve.

And then I look at the beautiful work of someone who has also been doing calligraphy for 20 years, but has rarely completed any serious work because nothing is good enough. His letter forms are beautiful but nothing is ever done with them.

I'm interested in this whole question because I struggle with it myself. (And I'm absolutely sure I'm not alone!)Beth Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03461043530446821901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35436301.post-7887412922965481482007-04-29T08:51:00.000-07:002007-04-29T08:51:00.000-07:00I also believe I know which artist(?) you were ref...I also believe I know which artist
(?) you were referring to and I had pretty much the same reaction, only with more disbelief than laughter...
Calligraphy Police...where do I sign up?Dave Ogdenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13205041282273006080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35436301.post-26554295139297097732007-04-14T17:31:00.000-07:002007-04-14T17:31:00.000-07:00Margaret.
